Tamworth Cruising Club

-HISTORY-

The club was formed originally on 26th June 1959 after
an earlier exploratory meeting by a number of Tamworth and
Lichfield boat owners, based at three locations-
Kettlebrook, Jones Boat Yard, and Fradley Junction.
At this Inaugural meeting it was decided to name the club
'Coventry Canal Society - Northern Branch',
with an affiliation to 'Coventry Canal Society'.

The first rally was held in September 1959 at Huddlesford with eight boats.

On the 28th April 1964, the club became independant and broke
away from the 'CCS' and became the Tamworth Cruising Club.

The next major change came on the 28th September 1978 when T.C.C split
and the Lichfield Cruising Club was formed with Huddlesford as it's HQ.

The club burgee design was proposed by the 12yr old son of one of the
founder members and is essentially the modification of the
original 'CCS' design by the changing of the lettering.
